25 things they don't tell you about being a new Mom

Hi Everyone,

I haven't written on here for soooo long, apologises I literally haven't had one minute to type anything let alone be able to think about what I want to say (lack of sleep does that too you)

Nothing can really prepare you for being a new Mom but some tips or advice or even just hearing other people's experiences really does help.  So here are a few things that I really didn't understand until I went through it.

  1. When you first bring baby home you will look at them and think "Well what do we do now"
  2. You will learn how to do everything with one hand eat, apply makeup, check emails, take out the laundry, unload the dishwasher, housework literally everything.
  3. No more standing in the shower for half an hour because you love the feel of the warm water on your body.  You will be in and out of that shower before the end of 4 verses of Twinkle Twinkle little star.
  4. You will never go to the toilet alone without having little one in their bouncer by the door way. (this goes for the shower too)
  5. You will be surprised how quickly you can do your housework 15 minutes before guests arrive, its like Sabrina the teenage witch clicked her fingers.
  6. You will eat the strangest of things just for the quickness of grabbing something.
  7. Expect sick, poo, wee, bogies on every part of your body and clothes.
  8. Changing your top twice a day due to baby sick is classed as a good day.
  9. You will never be so excited for wee's ,poo's and burp's which you praise baby for.
  10. You can sleep sat up and completely aware of what's going on.
  11. You will wake up with what feels like hard watermelons stuck on your chest and about to burst like a water balloon.
  12. You will be at least 30 minutes late everywhere.
  13. You will be so tired you want to cry but you can't sleep because you can't stop looking at your beautiful baby. it is definitely worth it.
  14. Straight after the birth you think I am not doing that again. 3 weeks later your talking about the next baby.
  15. Milk can actually spray out of your boobs and can catch you off guard.
  16. Your mobile will be your best friend to get you through feeding at night.
  17. All the daytime TV you said never in a million years you would watch, you will.
  18. You don't know where it comes from but you can't get enough of that baby smell, its amazing.
  19. You will never eat or drink anything warm, every night I stare at my diner going cold thinking of what it tastes like.
  20. Don't feel bad if you do drop food on baby eating it while breast feeding.
  21. The weight did not just fall off while breastfeeding, those chocolate bars for a energy boost don't help.
  22. Swot up on your nursery rhymes. Hubby wont be impressed when he catches you sing Baby Got back like Ross did in friends.
  23. Their will be a lot of stuff you wont use that people will buy you.  Having a summer baby I used 1 hat for when she came home theirs about 6 in the draw.
  24. You thought baby brain was bad, it gets worse.
  25. You have never felt Love and protection like it.
There is nothing that can prepare you for the Love that you will feel towards your little one, being a Mom is the most amazing thing in the world.

28 - 29 Weeks Pregnant

How far along?  28 - 29 weeks pregnant.

Weight?  I haven't weighed myself but I did measure my belly.  I need to get a new bra so I measured myself to see what size I would be. Apparently I'm now a 36DD and I use to be 34C before I was pregnant.  Out of interest I measured my belly and it's 42 inches!!! I can't believe it. Not sure exactly what I was before but I wore size 10 jeans so that's a 28 inch waist.

Maternity clothes?  My t-shirts are starting to ride up now so I thought I would  buy a few basic tops.  I went to H & M and got a black and white nursing tank top, I think these were £12 for 2.  I also bought a basic grey t-shirt and a 3/4 sleeve floaty top. My bra's are starting to get too small so it looks like double boob (not a good look) I haven't managed to find any nice ones yet.

Stretch marks?  Not yet.  The itchiness on my tummy is not as bad but is still pretty bad on my chest.

Best Moment?  This is kind of my worst and best.  For a few days I didn't really feel her move much and she definitely didn't have her normal pattern of being active and kicking at night and in the morning.  I called my midwife, she couldn't see me but refereed me to the foetal unit at the hospital so I could get monitored.  Typically as soon as they put the monitor on me which is strapped around your stomach she was going crazy and having a little party in there.  You are on the monitor for around 20 minutes and every time you feel a kick you have to press this handheld button.  They measure her heartbeat and although it worried me seeing it rise and dip they said it was perfectly normal.  They were so lovely in there and said anytime I don't feel her to come in as its really important to act on it and don't think oh I'll leave it until tomorrow.  Even though worrying it was lovely to hear her heartbeat for 20 minutes and know she was ok.
We also received our dresser changer which hubby again put up, he really is becoming a handyman now.  All the furniture is in now we just need to get some built in wardrobes put up and sort it all out properly.
We also went to a Mothercare event at our local store, they close it off to the public at 7pm and only people that are registered can attend and then they have different talks and presentations on different products around the store.  They had lots of offers on and had 30% off nursery products so we bought our Chicco next to me crib.  We have had a busy couple of weeks!

Miss anything?  A good nights sleep.

Food craving?  Nothing in particular.

Sleep?  Terrible.  I woke up one night in absolute agony, I had cramp in my calf like iv never felt before, I was almost in tears. ( It takes a lot for me to cry)  After rubbing my leg and finally able to stand up to go to the toilet it went but it ached the day after.

Movement?  She had her little 2 days of not moving not sure if she was sleeping or just tired but after that she's been moving around.

Gender?  Girl

Symptoms?  My skin hasn't been to good these last few weeks and iv notice my hair seems to be shedding more and breaking at the ends more so than normal.  People say your hair is amazing when pregnant but mine was only nice for the first 3months.  I'm thinking of having my extensions back in just before she arrives as I don't have to do anything with them and they look nice.  I can just put it up or plait it and it will still look good, so I'm still deciding on what to do.  My heartburn has got a little worse, it seems like a different kind of burn now, really hard to explain but its a constant burn.

Mood?  When I'm tired I have been getting irritable but I like to think I'm generally happy.  It's not long now and I just cant wait for her to be here!

Maternity Haul

26-27 weeks Pregnant Our Cot has arrived!

26- 27 Weeks Pregnant

How far along? 26- 27 Weeks pregnant

Weight Gain? I haven't weighed myself this week.

Maternity Clothes?  Same as before, Topshop jeans and T-shirts and comfy new look joggers.

Stretch Marks?  Not yet, still using Bio oil morning and night.

Best Moment?  We finally got our cot, it arrived without the dresser changer but Hubby worked really hard on Saturday to put it up.  Once it was up I put a sheet and blanket and a few toys in to make it look pretty.
We also had a info pregnancy session with a doula that we might use for antenatal classes. Its basically an insight in to the classes and if its your kind of thing.  It was really good and Hubby got to wear a sympathy pregnancy belly, I couldn't get over seeing him with boobs. hehehe.  We have booked our antenatal classes with her and we will start them in a few weeks.  We also went to the baby show at Excel in London and ordered our iCandy Pushchair.  We've had a busy couple of weeks.!

Miss Anything?  I don't really have a good night sleep anymore as I am tossing and turning constantly and my legs and hips get uncomfortable, so I'm missing sleep.

Food craving?  Still anything sugary, I am a lot better though and I'm trying to cut down.

Sleep?  Defiantly don't get much sleep anymore as its getting uncomfortable, getting me use to what's to come I suppose.

Movement?  All the time, she has a pattern of being most active when I go to sleep, through the night and early morning.

Gender?  Girl

Symptoms?  Again the same heartburn, itchy skin.  I haven't had a dizzy spell for a while which is good but I have started getting diarrhoea, which is not nice :-(

Mood?  Generally happy unless Iv had a bad nights sleep and I am restless and easly irritated but who isn't when they haven't had much sleep.

24-25 weeks Vlog

24 - 25 weeks Pregnant

How far along?  24 - 25 weeks pregnant

Weight Gain?  Since transfer 16 pounds

Maternity clothes? Still my Topshop skinny leigh Jeans, maternity T-shirt and comfy trousers from new look.  I am still wearing my normal clothes most of the time which generally are leggings and dresses and my Aztec waterfall Cardi.

Stretch marks?  Not yet but I'm getting Soooo itchy on my chest, back, sides, and tummy, it's so hard not to scratch.

Best Moment?  I have a proper pregnancy belly and I catch people looking at it and must be thinking Oh she's pregnant!  I met our new next door neighbour and the first thing she said was "Oh your expecting" I really wanted to say "NO" just to wind her up but thought that would be mean.

Miss anything?  I cant really see my toes unless I peep over my belly. Its quite hard to shave my legs even though I don't really bother anymore LOL. Shaving down there is another story, mission impossible!!!

Food craving?  I still haven't had my strawberry milkshake. :-(. Anything sugary I just can't get enough but I am trying to calm it down a bit.

Sleep?  It's Starting to get a bit more uncomfortable as my belly gets bigger and I suppose I get heavier.  I'm using my dreamgenii more and it does help.

Movement?  All the time, mainly when I get into bed and in the morning, hoping it's not a sign of her most active times or maybe it's because I'm focusing more on her I notice it more.

Gender?  Girl

Symptoms?  The same as before heartburn, breathlessness, Itchy skin.  I had a few dizzy spells even when eating so I don't think it is anything to do with Low blood sugar level.   Also when I lie down and mainly on my side I have heart palpitations and my chest feels heavy. I will mention it to my midwife when I see her next.

Wedding rings?  On

Mood?  Still happy.  I have noticed mainly when I'm at work as it can be emotional as Brides find their Wedding dresses and they have their family with them.  I have this overwhelming feeling of bursting out crying when I'm happy, its like BANG your guna cry.  It's really weird its not happened before.

22-23 Weeks Pregnant

22 - 23 Weeks Pregnant

How far along? 22 - 23 Weeks Pregnant

Weight gain? 14 Pounds

Maternity Clothes? My comfy trousers that I wear around the house fit fine but the stitching on the waist band irritates me so I bought some maternity ones from New Look.  They were £19.99 and have a super high band that you can fold over on the belly or fully extend to under your boobs, they are so comfy.  I went for a size 12 as I wanted them to e a little bit baggy and room to grow.  I also bought a blue and white stripe 3/4 sleeve t-shirt which I love as it really shows my bump.  My third purchase was a waterfall Aztec cardi which I have wanted for ages this is not maternity but really flatters a bump and I think I have worn it pretty much everyday since I have bought it.

Stretch marks? Not yet I am still using Bio oil morning and night. I'm getting so itchy now, it started with my back and now my stomach.  I just almost tickle my skin with my nails so i'm not scratching but once you start you cant stop.

Sleep? The Dream genii works really well and I never ach when I use it.  It is hard to get use to and it does make you warm sometimes but you literally wake up in the exact same position you feel asleep in.

Best Moment?  I had a follow up appointment from my anomaly scan as she was a little wriggler last time and they couldn't see her face to rule out cleft lip and they couldn't see her heart vessels clearly.  Again this week she was facing my back so she wasn't co- operating.  I was in there quite a while, the midwife had me turn to my side then after 25 minutes I turned back and for a minute she gave us a little profile of her face.  her heart looked good and also my placenta was lying low last time and it had moved up this time so that was good news.  I won't have another scan now unless my midwife is concerned about anything and refers me.  I find that so weird that, that will be it until she is born.  I am quite keen on having a 4D scan so we will maybe have that done around 28- 30 weeks.

Miss anything? Nope

Food Craving?  Strawberry milkshake! Hubby took me to McDonalds drive thru to get one and the machine was broken I was so gutted.

Gender?  Girl!

Symptoms?  Bump is getting bigger I actually look pregnant but because it is winter and cold I've been wearing padded coats and knitted loose jumpers so you cant really see the bump.

Movement?  I feel her move everyday sometimes not as much as the next day.  She is most active when I get up in the morning or when I go to bed.

Wedding rings?  On, I think they will always be on.

Mood?  I have had some days where I have been moody or a it snappy with hubby.

Looking forward to?  The cot arriving hopefully this week so I can't wait to get it up and see what it is like.  A lot needs doing to the room so it won't totally be ready for a while.

Thank you for reading

20 - 21 Weeks Pregnant

How far Along?  20 - 21 Weeks Pregnant

Weight Gain?  12 Pounds, Iv indulged over Christmas so I think a few pounds is Chocolate lol!

Maternity Clothes?  Topshop Moto Dark Vintage Leigh Maternity Jeans size 10, regular long sleeve t shirts and my regular floaty winter jumpers.  For work I wear my regular medium leggings or tights t-shirt dress, Jumper or dress.

Stretch Marks?  No new ones.  Using bio oil every morning and night.  I do believe stretch marks are hereditary.  My Nan had stretch marks, my mum and Auntie, all on their tummy's so I'm expecting it but it cant harm oiling.

Sleep?  I suffered from sciatica before I was pregnant from having a bad back and now my hips are killing me, maybe from the extra weight or my pelvis stretching I'm not sure.  I bought a Dreamgenii from mothercare and its been really good so far.

Best Moment?  Having our Anomaly Scan and seeing the baby.  I just can't get enough of seeing her I never want it to end and I cant wait to have her in my arms.

Miss Anything?  Even though I rarely drink alcohol I did miss having a festive Christmas drink probably more for the novelty than anything else.  I did find a mulled berry punch from Sainsburys which tasted the exact same as mulled wine and I will have this next year too.

Movement?  Yes most days.  Luke hasn't felt her kick again though on the outside.

Food craving?  Nothing in particular.  I really need to start eating a bit more healthy after indulging over Christmas this baby will be addicted to chocolate.

Anything making you feel sick?  Not really.  I can stand coffee a little more now but don't really care for it so I just have my decaf tea and the occasional decaf gingerbread latte form costa as a little treat.

Gender?  Little Girl

Symptoms?  Boobs are defiantly getting bigger, not sure what size but I am wearing a nursing bra or I have a few bra's that have no underwire a bit like a sports bra.  Best part of the day taking my bra off hehe.  Also normal heartburn, indigestion, breathlessness and defiantly baby brain.  I forget things easier and find it difficult to explain what I want to say its so frustrating.  I wonder why that is?

Wedding rings?  On

Mood?  Happy however there was a few films on over Christmas both about dogs and either the owner died or the dogs and I was an emotional wreck anything with pets I just break down.

looking forward to?  We have been looking at pram travel systems and nursery furniture and I cant ait to get them.  The nursery furniture are on offer in the sale so we might order the cot and changing dresser soon before they finish.  Cant wait to do the nursery!!!

14- 16 Weeks Pregnant

I have put together my weeks until I catch up to where I currently am.  After being so busy with moving to our new house which we are currently renovating and will be moving into before Christmas ( I hope)  I just haven't had time to blog or record videos, I don't think I actually know where the camera is, maybe in a box somewhere lol.  Like many other youtubers to stop me babbling on for ages I have done a pregnancy questionnaire to record my weeks so here goes.

How far Along?  14-16 weeks

Total Weight gain?  5 pounds from Frozen embryo transfer.

Maternity Clothes?  Officially can't do up my size 10 gap jeans, they go on fine but as the day goes on they get very uncomfortable and the button has to get undone and zipper down.  I bought a belly band that comes in a pack of 2 one white and one black from Mother care.  I bought them in a Medium as I thought it would allow me to grow but they are way to big and roll down and up and just a waist of time.  I also feel that they are too thin and even if they did fit they wouldn't give any support.

Stretch Marks?  I already have stretch marks on my hips, inner thighs and chest from puberty and being over weight in early teens.  These are now silver white but I have always applied Palmers Coco butter or bio oil to these areas maybe every other day so I now apply everyday morning and night.

Sleep?  Really weird dreams and a couple of nights I had a nightmare which I haven't had for ages.

Best Moment?  Hearing babies heartbeat.  We have bought our own heart monitor it was from Tesco's and was around £35. A lot of people including midwifes had said not to get one as they can cause you to panic if you don't hear the babies heartbeat.  I really wanted to get one so I did and we heard babies heartbeat from 11.5 weeks.

Miss anything?  Nope

Movement?  Not yet

Food Craving?  Any carbs or rubbish food

Anything making you queasy or sick?  Raw Meat.  I can't stand the look of it or blood.  Sometimes when I eat cooked meat it starts making me feel sick and I can't finish it.
I normally love coffee and have to have one every morning but I'm really not liking the smell of it, this started from the start of pregnancy.

Gender? Don't know yet but we think it's a boy, not for any reason we just have a feeling it is.

Labour signs?  No

Symptoms?  Heartburn and indigestion all the time, living on rennie's at the moment, they really work for me.  Getting out of breath when walking up the stairs or taking the dog for a walk or even when talking, I feel like an old lady. Lol!
Super bad constipation which I suffered from before I was pregnant.  A milky coffee or Yogurt and Oatbran really helps.
Growing pains, cramping and stretching mainly on the left side and also I get a stich under my ribs.  The bump is popping out a bit more and people have commenting on my pregnancy glowing skin, I think it was just oily skin. hehe.

Belly button in or out?  In, I think It will always be in so I will leave this question out next time.

Wedding rings on or off?  On

Happy or Moody?  Happy Soooo Happy.

Looking forward to?  Having a private Scan to find out the sex of the baby at 17.5 weeks, cant wait.

Thank you for Reading and Watching and all your support.

7-12 weeks pregnant bitten by a dog!

It's Time!
